This month of December, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will release a one-piso Rizal commemorative coin. BSP has issued 10 million pieces of these one-peso coin, minted as a tribute to the national hero Jose Rizal who just celebrated his 150th birth anniversary last June 19, 2011.
The coin’s obverse side bears Rizal’s portrait bust, the words “150 years,” “Republika ng Pilipinas,” and years “1861-2011”, while the reverse side bears the new BSP seal and the words “1-piso” and “2011”. The coin is similar with the one-peso coin currently in circulation, in composition (Nickel plated steel), in size (24 millimeters in diameter) and in weight (5.35 grams). Designed by Mr. Emerson Rg Abraham.
According to BSP, the coins had already been distributed to several banks for circulation and given time, we might be lucky enough to have one in our pocket before month’s end. Happy hunting!
How can i get one
Will update you for more info later on..
Thank you bro. I live in California so let me know
Since the coin is a legal tender, having friends & relative here can come in handy. You really don’t have to spend too much for it but shipping, if your outside Philippines. BSP doesn’t offer shipping, I’m afraid.
I live in NY and I bought one from a seller in Manila through ebay. It really didnt cost much but the shipping costed a lot more. It took two weeks to get here in NY, probably a lot sooner to California.
nice one batchmate ,btw where did you learn how to engrave?
Hi Jesally, thanks for the post. I’d really love to create masterpieces like him, granting I have similar talents that is.. hehehe. I believe you could reach Mr. Emerson via his FB profile.
they have the complete set at ebay and are selling it for 30 plus dollars. why that much? thanks
I believe the one in ebay is a folder set which include a Rizal commemorative “medal” and a set of 2011 circulating coins, not the coin as shown above. This coin is a legal tender, recently released by BSP. I’m not sure why they offered you that much, shipping expenses perhaps?
where can i buy commemorative coins? please advise.. thanks
Hi Vicky, thanks for the post, we’re glad to learn that you have found our site. If you’re in Manila, I suggest that you visit these reputable stores (CLICK HERE), their contact numbers are posted should you need to inquire. If you’re not, try buying online. I’ve seen a group of individuals in Facebook buying/selling online, here’s the link. >> “Coins, Notes, and Antiques for Sale”.
I got Rizal at 150 commemorative coin from store change. I tendered my 20 peso bill et voila I got the Rizal coin from the change. One from 10 million pieces…
