5 Piso date 2012 confirmed

KM# 272 – Philippine 5 PISO
New BSP Coin Series (1995 – Present)

Metallic Content: 5.5% nickel ,70% copper, 24.5% zinc
Diameter: 27 mm
Weight: 7.7 g
Edge: Plain

Two types of this coin was issued in 1997 & 1998. One with the BSP mintmark and one without. The ones without the mark were struck at the Royal Canadian mint.

  1. If there were 2 types of coin issued (in 1997), how come only 1 catalog code was used? Which one would be more “collectable”?

    • Perhaps it wasn’t considered as a major change for it to be given another code, but instead they only noted the differences. I would say, the one without because I think more collectors would prefer something which uniquely differs out of the ordinary.

  2. The 2001 5 Piso has a BSP mint mark. I wonder if there’s two types for that year as well. hmmm.
